Get Better Brows with PDO Threads

Your skin contains collagen and elastin, proteins that keep your skin hydrated, smooth, and elastic. However, as you age, the production of these vital proteins decreases, causing your skin to wrinkle and sag.

Over time, this lack of protein production and sun damage can cause the skin on your forehead to wrinkle and sag. Eventually, your eyebrows may droop, leaving you looking perpetually serious or angry.

Unfortunately, there aren’t many great fixes for sagging skin around your forehead and eyebrows other than a surgical brow lift.

Thankfully, our team led by Maria Cole, APRN, FNP-C, at Enrich Health and Wellness in Boerne, Texas, offers a less-invasive alternative: polydioxanone (PDO) thread lifts

This month, we highlight how this innovative cosmetic treatment can address wrinkled and sagging skin around your forehead and brows.

What’s a PDO thread lift?

A thread lift is a cosmetic treatment that uses dissolvable stitches to lift sagging areas of skin. This procedure gives you the look of a brow lift, but instead of removing skin or stitching it from the inside, your skin is outwardly suspended with stitches.

The stitching gives you a youthful and lifted look. Plus, the minor injury incurred from the stitches triggers your body’s healing process, including increased collagen production. More collagen gives your skin a tighter, smoother, and younger appearance.

PDO thread lifts get their name from the thread and technique used to make the stitches.

What happens during a PDO thread lift?

Before a PDO thread lift, our team sits down with you to discuss your aesthetic goals and determine if this procedure is right for you. If it’s a good fit, we can schedule your PDO thread lift.

Starting about five days before your thread lift, avoid tobacco products, green tea, omega-3 fatty acids, alcohol, and aspirin. All of these things can increase your chance of swelling afterward.

On the day of your procedure, you sit back in a comfortable chair while we apply a local anesthetic to keep you comfortable and pain-free. We then use a thin needle to stitch up areas around your forehead and brows to provide you with your desired look.

Recovery time for PDO thread lifts is minimal. You may notice some bruising and swelling around the treatment site, but it should fade after a few days. Don’t wash your face or wear makeup for a couple of days to avoid unnecessary irritation.
